About Me

About Me: Sten Andreas Ljunggren

Born:

On a cold winter day in January 1976, I entered the world in the town of Kristinehamn, Sweden.

Current Location:
I'm currently living in the vibrant city of Stockholm.

How to Get in Touch:
The best way to reach me is via email at andreas (a.t) <the surname . net as used in the homepage link>.

My Educational Journey

Basic School:
I began my educational journey at Jakobsbergsskolan, where I spent six formative years. After that, I moved on to Södermalmsskolan for three more years, completing the nine years of elementary education every Swede experiences. Looking back, those years are a bit of a blur—whether due to a "bad" memory or a selective amnesia, I’m not quite sure!

High School:
After elementary school, I pursued my passion for electronics at Brogårdsskolan, where I studied for three years to become an Electronic Technician. These were some of the best years—full of rigorous study and fun with friends.

University:
In 1995, I took the next step and began my studies towards a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the University of Karlstad. After three enriching years, I graduated in 1998. I made many new friends during this time, though most have drifted apart. However, a few close friendships have stood the test of time and remain dear to me.

My Professional Journey

Early Career:
In 1998, I joined Ericsson Infotech in Karlstad as a Computer Science Engineer. Hired as a Design Engineer, I had the opportunity to work on various technologies, including wireless internet, WAP, Bluetooth, and E-Commerce. My role often involved system architecture, designing everything from small trial systems to large-scale operator systems with millions of users.

Teaching was another passion I explored during my time at Ericsson. There's something incredibly rewarding about working with others, sharing knowledge, and seeing the lightbulb moment when someone truly understands a concept.

Global Experiences:
Working at Ericsson also meant traveling to some amazing places—Malaysia, New York, London, and Düsseldorf, to name a few. I’ll never forget the shock of stepping off a plane from freezing Stockholm into the warm embrace of Kuala Lumpur's 30-degree weather! One day, I plan to return to Malaysia, whether as a tourist or perhaps for work.

Transition to Tieto Enator:
In 2002, I was outsourced from Ericsson Infotech to Tieto Enator—a move that brought mixed feelings. On one hand, it provided a guaranteed order flow for three years during a tough time in the IT industry, which was a relief. On the other hand, it meant adapting to a new corporate culture, especially the "consultant-drilling," where you had to be ready to present the company in 30 seconds, regardless of your role.

Back to Ericsson AB:
In 2005, I took on a new challenge as a System Manager focused on Product Security at Ericsson AB in Stockholm. That year was a whirlwind—I got married, moved to Stockholm, started a new job, and welcomed our firstborn, Richard!

A problematic part of this transition was that I ended up with a strict NDA against some of my former colleagues at Tieto Enator, including knowledge that affected close friends' prospects. This turned out to be very painful and ultimately resulted in driving apart.

My main responsibility was security, ensuring that our designers and product managers were aware of the threats in the "wild" and that appropriate measures were in place to protect our products.

Innovation, Patents, and Recognition

Beyond my work in security, I've also had the chance to innovate, resulting in many patents. I was honored to win the Ericsson Media Innovation Contest 2007 and be a finalist in 2008. Additionally, I was nominated as Ericsson Innovator of the Year in  2008 and 2009—a profoundly proud recognition.

If you are interested in my patents, I would suggest you search via FreePatentsOnline,
